Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) often used for osteoarthritis pain may actually exacerbate inflammation in arthritic knee joints, a new study suggests.
The study suggests that widely prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs such as naproxen and ibuprofen may actually increase swelling and discomfort in the knee joint over time.
While NSAIDs can provide benefits, they come with a number of potential risks (such as kidney damage) and side effects such as a number of stomach problems, increased blood pressure, allergic reactions, bruising or bleeding, dizziness, balance problems, and problems with concentration.
